Product description
The GES-802M is a Layer 2 managed switch solution for high speed connectivity with popular traffic priority and management capabilities for small and medium businesses. It features 8-port 10/100/1000Base-T RJ45 and 2-100/1000Base-X SFP based fiber optic ports. GES-802M is designed with a high-performance switching architecture and offers wire-speed transportation capability for bandwidth-intensive applications of enterprises. Switch supports features such as VLAN, QoS, IGMP for multicast applications and network management to fulfill SMB requirements. The GES-802M is a cost effective Gigabit Ethernet solution to meet the converged applications for enterprise customer's networks.
All copper ports support auto-negotiation of speed and detection of straight/crossover cable connections through the auto MDI/MDIX capability. The switch is offering Quality of Service (QoS) and VLAN support, both well needed in an FTTB or FTTH project. The QoS works either based on the IEEE 802.1q protocol or applies Port based or Weighted Priority policies to control and prioritize data traffic on Triple Play bandwidth demanding applications.
Besides the priority control support, an FTTx project needs also VLAN capabilities. Sometimes VLAN is used to segregate different services to same customer, but most often, VLAN networks are useful in sharing a same fiber optic link to several customers which are in proximity of each other and under the standard copper cable coverage(MDU - appartments or condominiums, MHU and business centers do qualify under these particular FTTB deployments). The GES-802M switch supports port based VLAN and IEEE 802.1q VLAN and has the ability to control bandwidth and data traffic on each port, on both egress and ingress traffic. The Rate Limit feature is extremely useful to Service Providers to easily allocate bandwidth to subscribers. This ability offers also enhanced security of the network and assures continuous traffic even when one of the data ports is heavily stressed(flooded) with useless data, with the only purpose to cause a Denial of Service for provider.
